I might get a full-time 8-5 job as a front office receptionist. FINALLY OfficeTeam called me because, ironically, the Phoenix office called THEM. The Reno office said they couldn't get recommendations through other locations and that they really needed my last employer - well, I couldn't get ahold of them, because every time I'd go through the call center lines (where I worked), I'd get tossed around and never get to a real manager. It's what they're trained to do. So yesterday, the Phoenix office called me to offer me a job, and I explained to them that I'd moved and was now living elsewhere. She asked if I was working with OfficeTeam anymore, and I said I was unable to because the prior woman I was working with last year couldn't get ahold of my previous employer, and neither could I, and she said she couldn't call the Phoenix office about it - she needed to speak directly to my prior employer.
So that was that, I left it alone. I couldn't get ahold of everyone and neither could she, so she said we were in limbo. Well apparently, she didn't even need that LAST employer because she had all of my previous employers as well!! The woman in Phoenix was so upset about it that she told me she'd call me RIGHT back, and called MFS to talk to their hiring manager that I got hired through. His name was Chip. She called back within ten minutes and exclaimed, "REFERENCE DONE! I'm going to call the Reno office RIGHT now and tell them to contact you."
And they did! This morning! It's an 8-5 office job answering 7 phone lines, transferring to 15 other lines, and being detail-oriented to check on orders and stuff. It's nothing exciting, but it pays $10 an hour and I would start training tomorrow from 1-5, and then start work on Monday if they liked me. I'm trying to get ahold of my manager at Starbucks because I reeeaaally want to continue working there, just on the weekends if possible. I enjoy working there. I like seeing the same faces every day.
My manager isn't there, so I'm going to shower and head into town to call a few coworkers and see if they can't cover my shifts next week. Another awesome thing about OfficeTeam - it's a weekly paycheck, unless/until I get hired on full-time at the actual location. $10/hr @ 40 hours a week.... God, I could really use this right now. I'm only getting half those hours at Starbucks, and next week I'm getting hardly anything.
Oh crap...I am going to a concert Tuesday in San Jose and it's already payed for. WELP! There goes the reason I was writing this entry! I'm not skipping out on something already paid for. I totally just remembered this. Damn.
At least they'll hire me for positions now because I was "so highly recommended by the Phoenix location". :-D
So, wow, it's 2009.
1) Where did you ring in 2008?
In our apartment in Phoenix, went to bed early because I was tired.
2) What was your status by Valentine's Day?
Taken.
3) Were you in school (anytime this year)?
Nope.
I debated getting back into school, but was broke and unemployed. I
still don't know what the hell to do with myself... I don't know if the
culinary industry will ever work out.
4) How did you earn your keep?
Well,
while unemployed I just cleaned and pretty much used my credit card.
Scary, but I know I can pay it off this year, and I was never late on a
payment.
5) Did you have to go to the hospital?
Yes, at the very end of the year I went to urgent care because I was THAT sick. :-(
6) Did you encounter the police?
Yeah, first ticket ever back around March or something. I blame driving my sister's new, flashy Element. Fucker.
7) Where did you go on vacation?
San Francisco, and once while I was in Phoenix I visited Reno for a weekend.
8) What did you purchase that was over $500?
Umh.... Lorean's birthday present, an XBox 360 Elite.
9) Did you know anybody who got married?
This year? Did I? I can't remember.
10) Do you know anybody who passed away?
Umh... not that I recall. :-|
11) Have you run into anybody you graduated high school with?
Yup. Plenty of people, that's what happens when you move back to your old city.
12) Did you move anywhere?
Yes, moved back to Reno from Phoenix.
13) What sporting events did you go to?
I
went to a Giants game while in Phoenix, and they won! :-p (Take that,
Sarah!! They WON the game I went to, and I ENJOYED it! :-p :-p)
14) What concerts did you go to?
Oh oh! I saw Smile Empty Soul, Trapt, and Hinder at the Jaggermeister (sp? I hate that drink, so whatever) Tour.
15) Where do you live now?
Sparks, NV again.. hopefully not by the end of this year.
18) Describe your birthday.
Pretty
much ignored by family and most friends. Didn't really get anything.
Went to Nebraska for my birthday weekend even though I really, really
didn't want to. Pretty uneventful, but I had a few thoughtful people do
things for me or wish me happy birthday.
19) What’s the one thing you thought you would never do but did in 2008?
Honestly...
I didn't think my relationship would survive all of the dumb shit
Lorean did. But we made it through, and I'm hopeful for a wonderful
2009.
20) What is one thing you regretted this year?
I
thought I regretted a few things, but now that the year is over and
there's been some time to deal with mistakes or bad moments, I've
learned and I've grown. I don't regret anything. However, I still don't
think it was a good idea to move back to Reno from Phoenix. We should
have moved somewhere else.
21) What’s something you learned about yourself?
I
think I'm with Sarah on this one - I am beginning to need to be right
ALL of the time, and I need to stop that. I also learned that even long
time friends can just drop off the face of the earth and act like it's
YOUR fault you're not in touch anymore. Oh, and that sometimes the best
of friends aren't in contact the most, but it doesn't matter, because
whenever you finally find the same time for each other, the friendship
is still there. <3
22) Any new additions to your family?
Nope. Same family, same pets.
23) What was your best month?
Hard
to say; a lot happened this year, and there were good times and bad
times in almost every month. I think the end of the year in general was
the best part - I can't pick a month. Lorean stopped acting like a
dumby (for the most part), I got TWO jobs, and life just seemed to calm
down. I'm still lost on what to do with school or trying to work in the
culinary field. I really think I want to go back to college for
veterinary, but that might happen come summer semester. I want to pay
off some debts and save some money.
24) How would you rate this year with a scale from 1 (shitty) to 10 (excellent)?
6.5.... or a 6.
25) What are your 2009 resolutions
1. Lose the last 20lbs of the weight I gained while living in Phoenix.
2. Get toned and satisfied with my body and health in general, because I haven't felt good about myself in over a year.
3. Continue growing in my relationship, and not digress.
4.
Get back into school at SOME point, and get a degree in something that
is actually worth while. (Cough, veterinary something, cough)
5.
Travel a little - take a three or so day vacation to San Francisco and
do everything Lorean has yet to do, take some time off for my cousin's
wedding in the summer, and head down to San Diego for my birthday to go
to Disneyland for two days. :-D
5. MOVE THE HELL OUT OF RENO!!!!
I
went to a really fun party for New Year's Eve. It was a pin-up themed
party and I got probably 50 or more compliments on my outfit (pencil
skirt, pattern black tights, red pumps, a white corset over a white
collared shirt, and pin-up style hair with two flower pins); I was a
bit surprised to see that most everyone else wasn't in the proper 50's
pin-up theme, though... it seems that it was just an excuse to wear
skanky, mock pin-up costumes. Pretty funny, but I didn't care -
everyone looked good and everyone had a good time. I really felt
attractive in my outfit, which was a surprise, because I never feel
like that anymore.
I lost my badge today on the way IN to work, somewhere between my car and the hospital. Later this morning, I proclaimed a very loud, "I LOVE YOU!" to a security guard that found my badge on his way into work from the parking lot. He found it in the crosswalk and brought it in to me, so I gave him a free coffee. Thank God for him, because I didn't want to spend $5 on a new badge.
The whole weekend is mine for doing whatever I want with it - I have Saturday and Sunday off surprisingly - oh, and Monday as well! - so I wonder what I'm going to do with myself. I wish I hadn't just ended my seasonal job, because I'd have a bit more money available and I'd run out of town for a few days. I love getting out of Reno.
Lorean and I are thinking of going to the Disturbed concert that is in Sacramento on the 26th. I REALLY want to go - tickets are only $35! - but it's over the pass, and I'm concerned about buying the tickets and then getting snowed into (or OUT of) the valley. I think I'm going to buy them anyway and then take that day and the day after off. That way, if anything happens, we can just stay in Sac that night and drive back the next afternoon when the snow is usually either falling lighter, or melted off enough to drive through the mountains.
I think that's just about all I have to say right now!
I'd appreciate it if you'd never visit me again! Especially when we have a line of about 8 customers and all I can do is jump around in a circle, and then hop back on to my register.
Damn you, Scuba Steve!
Sooooo not excited for tomorrow!
Cappuccino, you will be the death of me!
I sprained my wrist apparently. I was driving, turned the wheel, got my hand stuck in it in some funky way and somehow sprained the damn thing.
It hurts and it's swollen. This is my left hand, btw. I'm so weirded out - it's odd not having two fully functional hands for me. :-( I can't imagine how hard making coffee and espresso is going to be tomorrow...or how much they're all going to make fun of me!
I'm having a lot of fun with my team at Starbucks. I'm so happy to be working with all of them..they're all really fun. Our manager is pretty neat, too. It just seems like a really awesome group!
The weather in Reno has been pretty cold lately. I love it!! The skies are gray and cloudy, and the mountains are constantly hiding beneath low clouds. You can totally tell it's snowing like crazy up there... I really want to go snowboarding, but none of my shit fits me anymore. I guess if I bought some new pants and wore REALLY thin socks in my boots, then I might be able to go snowboarding a few times.
...but if I'm spraining my damn wrist DRIVING, seriously, how much must God NOT WANT ME on a mountain? lmao
The extra tall guy is Nick - he's 6'5!! The guy with the lid full of whipped cream is Zack; he wanted some of our vanilla whipped cream, so our trainer put it in a lid and put the mocha sauce on top.... it proceeded to dribble out of the lid and all over his pants, so we told him to shove it in his face, and he did. It was funny. Everyone else is JUST as fun and funny, and I'm soooo totally loving it.
Also, anyone that rags on Starbucks needs to be educated - I'm learning things I didn't know! Starbucks tries to help independently owned coffee farms, and the expensive water that we sell (ethos) actually helps to provide fresh water for villages and areas all over the world that would otherwise just drink/bathe/laundry/pee in the same rivers/streams. Pretty damn important!
I bought this scarf earlier this past week. I love it. Lorean is also telling me that I look like I'm losing VISIBLE weight. I've lost weight this year, but he said this is visible... my face, stomach, and legs look much slimmer - or so he says. I dunno. It could be the fact that I'm drinking so much damn coffee that I don't even have an appetite for food anymore. This will wear off once we stop 'coffee tasting' (like wine tastings!) at work. :-D
Lastly, it was my mom's birthday yesterday. I spent quite a bit of money on her. She got an awesome car oil burner - you plug it in and you can actually change oil scents by changing the little insert thingie. It's super neat - I bought her this at The Body Shop, and got two scents for her: Vanilla Spice, and Tobacco Flower.
BTW, Tobacco Flower smells NOTHING like tobacco. It actually smells divine.
She also got her favorite college football team (Ugh, the huskers/NE) on a Santa hat, and some really good chocolate truffles. :-D AND a pop-up card with kittens crawling around through sewing boxes and string. Too cute.
Then we all went to Red Robin, got burgers, and I made this embarassing balloon for her. I also snuck off to the bathroom and told a waitress to sing happy birthday and embarass her before she decided to get up and make us all leave. :-D They sang the "sound off (happy) sound off (birthday)" version, which includes a line "I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'VE BEEN TOLD (repeat) SOMEONE HERE IS GETTING OLD (repeat)".
Anyway..time to run off and go to church. :-D
Wow, I must say I'm quite surprised. It pays crap, but right now all I want to do is be able to pay my bills and buy my own gas again. I miss being able to pay my bills; I hate asking for money and help every single month. I know my parents are going through hard times financially because my sister just keeps screwing up, and it's also causing martial problems (I can't believe this... kicking a child out is not the time to grow apart, it's the time to work together and support the others' decisions).
It's been three and a half months since I've had income. So, yeah, I'm getting paid peanuts, but I'm quite happy I have anything at all. Besides, I get discounted lingerie, chocolate decorating experience, and a free costume for Halloween. I just hope they put me over on the retail side more than they keep me in the boring chocolate side... making naughty chocolate parts is entertaining, but it'll grow tiresome quickly. I wanted to work with people.
Oh, and it's at a naughty lingerie/toy/chocolate store. Kind of risque, but the group is so much fun and I've chattered with the owner basically since they've been open. I went in there, she recognized me, I spoke with her mother (yeah, another family business; let's hope it's not working in Hell again like it was at Josef's) and poof! I have a job. I start at 10am tomorrow morning, and then I'm actually opening the store on my own on Saturday.
One thing that I'm slightly bummed about is working on Sundays... that was the first thing I said when I walked in there to give my resume earlier, was that I didn't want to work on Sundays. Since I've been so desperate for a job, I caved in and I basically work every..single..Sunday now. It's only three hours, but oh well. Maybe she'll move someone else over to the chocolate side after a week or so if I don't enjoy it.
Plus, I can always get a second job if I need to. This one can become my part-time only job, and the other job can become my serious job. I don't know if I can afford to go back to school on these wages, so I'm reluctant to go in and register... we'll see. I think on some level I'm just keeping myself from going to school because I'm afraid I'll fail at a SECOND career. What a crappy feeling...
The end.
THEY EXTENDED THE OFFER TO HIRE ME ON FULL TIME!
I GET THE FORMAL LETTER FROM HUMAN RESOURCES NEXT WEEK!
I'LL START MY FIRST ACTUAL FULL-TIME EMPLOYEE, PERMANENT DATE ON NOVEMBER 5!!!!!
OH MY GOSH
(Can you say...holy incredible benefits, batman!?)
First of all, now that I've used that cheesy quote from the old cartoons and molded it into my own BATMAN! statement, let me just say:
I'm absolutely thrilled and excited for the new Batman movie coming out next year. I can't wait. I'm also crazy-excited for the Magneto movie Marvel is planning to do, and INSANELY EXCITED for the Justice League movie that is supposedly going to come out in 2009. Yes, I'm quite the nerd, but my boyfriend is actually making me MORE of one than I already am. Before, it was really just the X-Men and then the art in the comic books that drew me in... now, it's everything. I actually want to start buying and collecting comic books.
NOT TO MENTION they're planning on making a Wonder Woman movie, a movie about The Flash, and it's rumored that they're planning on a Green Lantern movie with Tyrese as the main star. Personally, I think he's a BIG mistake for a main role.. he's not star-actor quality. Supporting? Maybe. Star? No.
And the comics, should I start to actually buy any - I wouldn't mind hanging them on the wall.. like an entire wall-covering of collected comic books.
Man, I need help.
Anyway. I haven't had much time for updates this week at work. Switching over to taking retirement and retail calls has pretty much left me with ZERO free time, and it totally sucks. I miss being able to write in my journal about anything, or just nothing, while at work. I miss being able to READ journal entries here at work. This pretty much sucks, but oh well. It's a job that pays the bills, right? That's what I have to keep telling myself.
This coming Monday is my 21st Birthday. I've invited a few people from work to head on out to the Hard Rock Cafe somewhere downtown in Phoenix after work - probably around 5:30/6pm - to have some food and drinks. I've got my heart set on a Hurricane for my birthday, since it's this huge drink that costs $14 and has like... 6+ different alcohols in it, I think. Whatever it is, it was good when I had it in Mexico for my graduation trip. :-D
I have no idea how many people are going to show up.. I know 2 for sure, my buddies Cristina and Jeff. Anyone else? I'm inviting some others, but I don't know if they'll show or not. Who cares? I'd rather it be people I actually LIKE at work, anyway. :-)
So I'll probably have to update and let everyone know how that goes. I don't plan on getting smashed - I have to work the next day, and absolutely can't miss. So, no crazy drinking stories from me. It's not really my style, anyway. I'm not a big drinker.
