I sprained my wrist apparently. I was driving, turned the wheel, got my hand stuck in it in some funky way and somehow sprained the damn thing.
It hurts and it's swollen. This is my left hand, btw. I'm so weirded out - it's odd not having two fully functional hands for me. :-( I can't imagine how hard making coffee and espresso is going to be tomorrow...or how much they're all going to make fun of me!
I'm having a lot of fun with my team at Starbucks. I'm so happy to be working with all of them..they're all really fun. Our manager is pretty neat, too. It just seems like a really awesome group!
The weather in Reno has been pretty cold lately. I love it!! The skies are gray and cloudy, and the mountains are constantly hiding beneath low clouds. You can totally tell it's snowing like crazy up there... I really want to go snowboarding, but none of my shit fits me anymore. I guess if I bought some new pants and wore REALLY thin socks in my boots, then I might be able to go snowboarding a few times.
...but if I'm spraining my damn wrist DRIVING, seriously, how much must God NOT WANT ME on a mountain? lmao
The extra tall guy is Nick - he's 6'5!! The guy with the lid full of whipped cream is Zack; he wanted some of our vanilla whipped cream, so our trainer put it in a lid and put the mocha sauce on top.... it proceeded to dribble out of the lid and all over his pants, so we told him to shove it in his face, and he did. It was funny. Everyone else is JUST as fun and funny, and I'm soooo totally loving it.
Also, anyone that rags on Starbucks needs to be educated - I'm learning things I didn't know! Starbucks tries to help independently owned coffee farms, and the expensive water that we sell (ethos) actually helps to provide fresh water for villages and areas all over the world that would otherwise just drink/bathe/laundry/pee in the same rivers/streams. Pretty damn important!
I bought this scarf earlier this past week. I love it. Lorean is also telling me that I look like I'm losing VISIBLE weight. I've lost weight this year, but he said this is visible... my face, stomach, and legs look much slimmer - or so he says. I dunno. It could be the fact that I'm drinking so much damn coffee that I don't even have an appetite for food anymore. This will wear off once we stop 'coffee tasting' (like wine tastings!) at work. :-D
Lastly, it was my mom's birthday yesterday. I spent quite a bit of money on her. She got an awesome car oil burner - you plug it in and you can actually change oil scents by changing the little insert thingie. It's super neat - I bought her this at The Body Shop, and got two scents for her: Vanilla Spice, and Tobacco Flower.
BTW, Tobacco Flower smells NOTHING like tobacco. It actually smells divine.
She also got her favorite college football team (Ugh, the huskers/NE) on a Santa hat, and some really good chocolate truffles. :-D AND a pop-up card with kittens crawling around through sewing boxes and string. Too cute.
Then we all went to Red Robin, got burgers, and I made this embarassing balloon for her. I also snuck off to the bathroom and told a waitress to sing happy birthday and embarass her before she decided to get up and make us all leave. :-D They sang the "sound off (happy) sound off (birthday)" version, which includes a line "I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'VE BEEN TOLD (repeat) SOMEONE HERE IS GETTING OLD (repeat)".
Anyway..time to run off and go to church. :-D
I got the job at Kiddie Kandids. Next week, after I get back from Nebraska, I'll start working there. I'm going to shoot for nights for the most part because I still want the job at Starbucks that I interviewed for. It's through a hospital, so technically I'd be a hospital employee. I'd be getting at least 30 hours every week because that's what you need for benefits to be active, and the manager said he could definitely make that work for someone that wanted to work that much. He also really liked that I was so driven to get the job and stay with the job. He doesn't want flaky people, especially right now when there are so many flakes out there. AND he didn't care that I wanted Sundays off... he said that was fine.
So, with Kiddie Kandids, it's seasonal part-time, which means I'm not going to get benefits, even when I cross over into full-time hours. It's pretty crumby, but I think it will be a fun job nonetheless. I've always wanted to explore photography a bit more, and this is a good way to start. If I get the Starbucks job, I'd really like to be able to balance both jobs for the rest of the year. If it works out, then I'd keep doing it through the beginning of next year, unless I re-enroll in school... which I still want to do. If that's the case, I'll stick with the Starbucks job (I already discussed "what if I go back to school?" with the manager, and he and I both agree we'd want to keep me on the schedule and not just drop the job, because we want long-term stuff... both of us :-D) and leave Kiddie Kandids for the time being.
One downfall already with this job: I start next week, and I don't have the clothes for it. I bought 2 pairs of black slacks from Express (I got $20 off immediately for trying their new style on, and THEN I got 15% off for re-opening my Express card), and I got one button-up white shirt - required for the job. It's all we can wear. White collared button-up shirt, black slacks, black flat close-toed shoes. That's it. Not a big deal, right? Yeah..sure... unless you're built like me. :-( Even when I was skinnier, I still had massive breasts, and it's hard to find button-up shirts that fit over them. I found one out of all of the styles there, and it was an awesome, cute ruffly collar and one large ruffle down each side of the buttons.
...Well, turns out - after I buy it - we can't have ruffles at all. :-( I don't want to return the shirt because I can't EVER find professional button-up shirts like that one that will fit me, but this means I have to go out and keep looking. I tried on two or three more styles and NONE of them worked for me. In fact, the only other one that looked semi-decent on top was as long as my damn thighs because I'm short!!! Pretty lame.
So, sad little me, I have to actually go shopping...haha. I don't like to shop anymore because I've gained so much weight! On top of having those massive breasts, I'm now a chunky cow. Moooooo!!! This won't be fun.
Oh well. I'm happy to have a job that I am actually interested in. I can actually build skills at this job, so it's not a complete dead-end. :-) Everyone with me luck/pray that I still get the Starbucks job, though; it would be much more stable and I really need benefits. I need to start going to a doctor again, just to keep up on my body. I've got a few things going on physically that could really mean something bad, but I haven't told my mom yet; I really need insurance just in case this happens to be my appendix. :-|
What's the best thing you ever bought off of Ebay or Craigslist?
Furniture in general, and not off of eBay, but Craigslist. I prefer Craigslist because personally, if I get my heart stuck on something and want to buy it, I don't want to bid repeatedly and stalk the site that it's on in order to win my prize. I just want to go buy it.
Also, I find it easier to purchase through Craigslist because I often go check out the furniture or object before I buy it. I don't really think that's as easily done with eBay, which kind of makes it hard to determine whether or not it's junk.
When I started college, I only had a tiny table for my kitchen with stools that tucked in underneath it, a computer desk, a TV stand, and two bookshelves. Well, I also had a TV and computer too, but those are electronics, not furniture.
I needed a couch, a bedroom set, and a mattress and box spring. Had I bought this items at a store, it would have cost me at least a few thousand dollars - and I say this because I recently just bought a sofa, loveseat, mattress+box spring, dresser (well, Lorean bought that one thing), and a rug. Easily about $2000, all brand new. Obviously I didn't have that kind of money because I was moving out of state off to college!
I also got an Ikea couch (I hate Ikea now, but hey, for college it was lightweight, easy to move since I was living alone, and it fit into my tiny 1-bedroom San Francisco apartment) that the previous owner DELIVERED to me and helped me move up my three floors of stairs for only $100 Fast forward to now, I'm living in Phoenix with my boyfriend and, like I said earlier, I bought a bunch of brand new furniture. I did find a coffee table, two end tables, and a dining room table + chairs that ALL match for $200 on Craigslist. They may not be everyone's idea of nice furniture, but I think for now they match my personality and fit with our apartment.
